We, the founders, crossed paths at a happy hour for the Washington Association of Professional Anthropologists (WAPA), which only several "early career" students and practitioners had attended. We found a real common ground in that we are facing similar career-shaping decisions in an environment that seems quite different from what our professors and senior mentors faced. The purpose of this group is to provide a meeting ground for scientist and engineers who have or wish to design mission architectures for space exploration and wish to discuss and develop them. This is not a group that will meet in cafes and skim the surface of a topic. This group will meet up in study areas and discuss mission designs in detail and with the intention of submitting a proposal, as is done in industry.
